Mr. G. Whitlam as a friend of long-standing (like make Mansfield) came to pay me a private visit at my residence in Peking. Contrary to what may have been said, Mr. Whitlam did not at all say that his government recognised the Lon Nol regime "because this regime in fact controlled the country".
