Prince Sihanouk was deposed as Head of State of Cambodia by the National Assembly and the Council of the Kingdom on 18 March, 1970. This action stemmed from a conflict over both objectives and methods between the Government (especially the Deputy Prime Minister, Prince Sirik Matak) and the National Assembly on the one hand, and Sihanouk on the other.
