Summary / Abstract :

The more intransigent tone adopted by Thanat as reported in Bangkok telegrams to Canberra 483 and 503, after that relatively accommodating attitude of Sarit and Boon, comes as something of a disappointment. I understand from the United Kingdom ambassador hero that the Thai note mentions Preah Vihear as among the issues outstanding between the two countries, and trust that this is not suggested as necessarily to be a topic for discussion, for that might frighten the Cambodians off altogether.
