The political atmosphere improved during November. A legislative assembly meeting and the national solidarity week celebrations gave PAP leaders opportunities to deal with doubts and criticisms and give leadership to a community whose confidence has been sapped by the communal disturbances of July and September and the continuing friction with the federal regime in Kuala Lumpur.
