Summary / Abstract :

This paper explore China's economic relationship with Japan between 1949 and 1955. It suggest that despite China's disvantating experience of war with Japan (1937-1945), and the entrenched Cold War divide between the two countries after 1949, Japan became a small but significant economic partner to China during the 1950s.
