My name is Chheun Sopheap and I currently live in Boeng Ka-ek Village, Prek Roka Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province.
Loss of husband named Mom Ouk in Sang Security Office: In 1975, my husband and I were evacuated from Phnom Penh to Boeng Ka-ek Village. One night around 10:00 p.m., Vun, the unit chief of Boeng Ka-ek Village, called the names of 83 people, including my husband, and escorted them to Sang Security Office. My elder brother, Chheun Chheng, witnessed the villagers being escorted by Vun. The Khmer Rouge initially said that those people were being taken to be re-educated. I was not present when Vun took my husband. I believe the arrest took place during the rainy season 1977. I don’t know the reason why my husband was arrested and detained at Sang Prison in Trea Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. I learned about the arrest of my husband from my elder brother Chheun Chheng, who currently lives in Veal Village, Prek Sleng Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. Three of my relatives were also among the others who were arrested that day. They are: - an uncle named Than - an uncle named Ou - a cousin named Sok Part C: My name is Chheun Sopheap and I currently live in Boeng Ka-ek Village, Prek Roka Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. I was dismayed to learn that my husband died in Sang Prison and I could not stop crying. As a widow, I had no one to rely on. I had to raise my children alone and earn a living at the same time, which caused my standard of living to be miserable. If my husband were still alive, we would share the burdens and support the family together. I have never stopped missing him. Every time I think of him, tears fill my eyes. I feel pain and pity for him; he should not have been killed without reason. This circumstance causes me to suffer from insomnia, headaches, dizziness and fatigue. |
