When Democratic Kampuchea came to power in 1975, Its aim was to achieve a communist revolution that would radically transform Cambodia into a society strictly devoted to increasing agricultural production. All efforts were dedicated toward this end and any strictures or institutions that challenged DK authority were eliminated.
