Forced labor

After taking complete control of the entire country, the Khmer Rouge forced people to work extremely hard. For example, my family and I were forcibly put to work under extreme conditions. They forced me to work from six a.m. to twelve p.m. After lunch, I had to work until six p.m. What’s more, after we finished our dinner, they put us to work again until ten p.m. every day. A village chief, Nhor (deceased), assigned everyone to extremely hard work.
In addition, he also forced me to build a communal dinning hall. Even though I was sick, [I] was still put to work. If I could not work, I would be given nothing to eat. During this time, one [person] who was twice unable to work, was taken away and killed. Other people who were forced to work extremely hard during the regime are Ra, Seng, and my Mom. I do not know why the Pol Pot group forced us to work extremely hard from 1975 to 1979. I saw people being walked away. These people never returned. I often saw the Khmer Rouge group walking people, both base people and 17th of April people, to the foot of the Touk Meas mountain. The Khmer Rouge usually walked people at dusk, in groups of five to 10, with their hands tied up behind their backs. I saw this scene almost every day. At the time, I thought these people were being arrested because they were accused of being [Lon Nol] soldiers, teachers, secret agents, or CIA. Though I did not see the killing, I believe that these people were killed. My reason for this, is because I found many corpses at the foot of the mountain, when I went to visit this place after the fall [of the Khmer Rouge] in 1979.
I think that Nhor, the village chief, must be held accountable for the killings. In addition to this, I also saw the Pol Pot group arrest ethnic minority groups, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cham-Muslims, and exterminate these groups. I think these ethnic minority groups were exterminated, because Pol Pot thought that these groups were the wrong ethnicities. Those who were Chinese, Cham-Muslims, and Vietnamese were all exterminated at Touk Meas mountain! The chief of Ngor village should be held accountable for these killings. There were two or three Khmer Rouge [cadres] whose identities were unknown to me, coming to arrest these people at that time.
