Killing
A Khmer Rouge security police named Ut arrested my father, Khaol Thai, in our home and brought him to be killed in Chey Mas village, Chey commune, Prasat Sambo district. This incident took place during the dry season of 1975. My father was killed because he was a former Lon Nol soldier. Though he initially served for the Khmer Rouge, he defected to Lon Nol forces after struggling to survive in forest and suffering from a lack of food. When the Khmer Rouge regime finally took control of the whole country, he returned to his home village from Kampong Thom provincial town. Shortly after arriving home, he was arrested and killed. At the time, I was young and did not witness the incident. Say and Iet were also arrested on the day of my father’s arrest. Though my father perished, none of my siblings died under the Khmer Rouge regime. My father was arrested at our house, located in Trapeang Thma village, Salavisay commune, Prasat Balang district. Hiv, who lived next door throughout Democratic Kampuchea, witnessed the incident because Khmer Rouge security police arrested his father at the same time. The arrest took place at approximately ten p.m. Say, Iet, and my father were tied up and walked away by Khmer Rouge security police. |
