Killing

In 1975, five Khmer Rouge guards came to arrest my brother, Sann Lay, and took him to be killed west of Kon Thnaot village. These security guards were (1) Pol (dead), (2) Cheah, (3) Hean, currently living in Salavisay village, Salavisay commune, Prasat Balangkdistrict, and (4) Yakk, currently living in Pailin but native to Salavisay, and (5) unknown. Accusing my brother of being a Lon Nol soldier, they arrested him in Khmakk village, Salavisay commune, Kampong Svay district. In addition to arresting my brother, the Khmer Rouge district guards in Kampong Svay district came to arrest my brothers-in-law and two uncles of mine: (1) Khaol Thai, brother-in-law; (2) Meas Say, brother-in-law; (3) Chieb Lao, uncle; and (4) Chieb At, uncle.

Accused of being Lon Nol soldiers or American CIA agents, they were later executed in Chramas village, Sambour commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. In addition to my family’s arrests, I also witnessed Khmer Rouge guards arresting seven people who lived in my village and killing them in Salavisay pagoda. I knew only two of them:
1. Mach and one daughter.
2. Tha and one daughter.

Those arrested and killed were all accused of being Lon Nol soldiers’ wives.
Other Crime :
Forced labor

In 1975, a cooperative chief named Ie sent me to transport dirt in Ponnha Chy village, Santuk district, Kampong Thom province. At the time, every person was assigned to carry one cubic meter of earth per day. When we finished this task, the cooperative leaders ordered us to carry two cubic meters of earth, after which they made us carry three cubic meters of earth. When I could not complete the assigned task, they forced me to work until eleven p.m. Son ordered me to perform these tasks. The cooperative leaders wanted to kill me; this is why they assigned me such difficult tasks.

Starvation

From 1976 to 1977, the Khmer Rouge starved me, giving me only watery rice—one can of rice was cooked to make watery rice soup in a big pan—to eat. I consequently had to find extra food to satiate my hunger and dug up bulbs of arum that grew along the lake. During the rice-ripping season, I snuck away to strip rice grains off trees in the field, husked them, and ate them secretly.
It was a chief at the worksite where dry-season rice was planted. The worksite was located in Po Ambaes of Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. The reason worksite leaders gave us such little food to eat was because they wanted to kill us and did not want us to find out about their respective backgrounds.
