Forced labor
From 1975 to 1979, I lived in a cooperative located in Khmak village and worked under the supervision of a cooperative chief named Im. Im assigned me to climb twenty-five palm trees per day in order to obtain sugar for the cooperative during the period when the palm trees had flowers. After palm tree season passed, the cooperative heads occasionally assigned me to plow one hectare of rice field per morning. This was in line with the cooperative plan. During nighttime, I built rice dykes, pulled out grass, and watered the field. In addition, I was sometimes ordered to fish in Tonle Sap lake. In 1977, the cooperative chief sent me to dig canals and build small dams in Krasaing Kabel village. I was then ordered to build a dam in Ponnha Chy and dig canals in Kampong Svay district. I was subsequently forced to go back to climbing palm trees, a task that ended when Vietnamese troops came to liberate the country. |

Loss
In 1977, my younger sister Ya Yornm, a member of the fishing unit, was assigned to fish in the Tonle Sap lake. Later on, her friend, Pheakdey, told me that my sister had been executed because of accusations that she was involved in K.G.B and C.I.A networks. I do not know who killed her or where she was killed. |
