Torture
In late 1976, Te, a cooperative chief, and Patt and Chheum, security police of the Damreislap commune, arrested and brutally tortured my uncle. He was beaten and kicked and his hands were tied up behind his back. He was then dragged against the direction of water currents before being taken to be executed at La-akk, located in Voryav village, Damrei Slap commune. He was accused of stealing rice that belonged to the cooperative, though he did not actually steal this rice. I saw this incident with my own eyes. |

Other Crime :
|
Family separation
In 1975, Ouch and Cheum sent me to work in a mobile work brigade in Ponnhea Chy village, Tbaung Krapeu commune, Santuk district, Kampong Thom province. I was assigned to carry and deliver water to workers. They then ordered me to transplant and pull out rice seedlings in Snay Damrei village, Damrei Slap commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. At the time, comrade Chet, comrade Siev Srey, and comrade Yeam, my chiefs, ordered us to work until 12 p.m.; only then were we permitted to eat rice soup. After a half-an-hour break, they forced us to work until 6 p.m., at which point we were allowed to leave the worksite. At one point, I had diarrhea and went to a hospital in Spean Srayauv. When I fell ill, Khleng, Ko, and Chhanh, the cooperative chiefs, did not believe I was actually sick. They instead thought I had lost my consciousness. My mother was ordered to weave mats and scarves in Voryav village, whilst my father was assigned to tend cows and find wood for the cooperative. Killing In 1975, Khmer Rouge combatants arrested and killed my brother, Kay Soeu, in a location west of Thnal village, Tuol commune. They accused him of being a Lon Nol soldier. I learned of this incident from both my aunt, Kuon, and another person named Chea. |
