On March 18, 1970, Yat served Khmer communist movement as a Khmer Viet Cong combatant. In 1971, he was a Khmer Viet Cong soldier in the unit K-9, which was located in Cheukach village, Prey Veng province.
In 1972, he was a political chief in a spy unit in region 23 located in Kok Sramar village, Svay Rieng province. ឈ្មោះ យ៉ាត បានចូលបម្រើចលនាខ្មែរកុម្មុយនីស្ដនៅថ្ងៃទី១៨ ខែមីនា ឆ្នាំ ១៩៧០។ ក្នុងឆ្នាំ១៩៧០ ជាយុទ្ធជនខ្មែរយៀកកុង។ ឆ្នាំ១៩៧១ ជាយុទ្ធជនខ្មែរយៀកកុងក្នុងអង្គភាពគ-៩។ មានទីតាំងនៅក្នុងភូមិឈើកាច់ ខេត្ដព្រៃវែង។ ឆ្នាំ១៩៧២ ជាប្រធាននយោបាយខ-២ ក្នុង អង្គភាពស៊ើបការណ៍ប្រចាំ តំបន់២៣។ មានទីតាំងនៅក្នុងភូមិ គោកស្រមរ ខេត្ដស្វាយរៀង។
