In 1976, Kung, a village chief, called upon my uncle, Lak Ieng, and his wife, Saom Mao, to go to the west of Baray village, Kraya commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province. They were killed there because of accusations that they had stolen rice from a cooperative. I learned of the incident from my mother, though she has since passed away. |

In 1975, I was sent to serve as a nurse in a standing hospital. At the time, I was assigned to inject both patients infected with malaria and those wounded. The medicine used in the hospital was penicillin (antibiotic medicine); Kinins, used to cure malaria; Vitamin C, used to cure fever; Anagin and Campho, helpful to the heart; and Solucion, used to increase energy. The chiefs of the hospital at this time were Bun, Sal, Minsrey, and Rin. After being separated from my family, I did not reunite with them until1979. |
