Killing
The majority of new people evacuated to Voll Year village were taken to be killed in Khnorngsrang village, Kandol commune, Stung district. These killings resulted from their connections with Lon Nol. The killing took place in 1977. I do not know which cadres arrested these new people because the cadres came from other places. At one point, it took the cadres three to four days to arrest five to six people. Prisoners were tied up with string and walked to the killing place in Khnongsrang village. I witnessed the arrest and escort; the prisoners were taken away at dusk. I saw five to six prisoners being walked out every three to four days, which terrified me. |

Forced labor and starvation
After returning to my home village in April of 1975, I was forced to perform very heavy tasks, such as transplanting rice seedlings, harvesting, collecting cow dung, and chopping down and uprooting trees. Chhim, Te, Khuon, and Lon forced me to work, even though I had given birth to my child only three months earlier. Angkar starved me very frequently because I could not complete the assigned tasks. If I was able to finish the assigned tasks, I received two cans of rice per day to feed my child. We never had enough food to eat. Other people also had to work hard to receive two cans of rice per day. A cooperative chief called upon those who could not finish the assigned tasks to attend a meeting, at which he advised them that if they did not finish the assigned tasks next time, they would be handcuffed and taken to be killed. Angkar arrested Ta Mep and starved him to death. In approximately 1976 (unknown month), Chhim and Te arrested and handcuffed Ta Mep because he could not complete the assigned tasks and stole the rice used for cooking in the cooperative. Chhim and Te also arrested and detained my brother, Phan, for two days because he stole the cooperative’s sugar. Phan was interrogated about why he stole the cooperative’s sugar. He was then released to work in the cooperative. |
