The imprisonment of my brother, Hang Huon, in Tuol Sleng
About a year after the liberation of Phnom Penh city, I lost two brothers, Hang Huon and Hang Sambath. An unknown security police came to order my brothers to guard the banana farm. At first, the security police called upon my brother, Hang Huon, to guard the banana farm. The next day, however, he came to order another brother, Hang Sambath, to guard the banana farm as well. They have been missing ever since. At the time, I lived in Boeng Khangchoeng village, Boeng commune, Baray district, Kampong Thom province. Having witnessed the incident with my own eyes, I was aware that the security police came to call my brothers at night. About three years ago, I was invited to visit Tuol Sleng, Boenchaeng Ek, and the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. In Tuol Sleng, I saw a photo of my brother, Hang Huon, but not one of Hang Sambath. I still do not understand why my brothers were detained in Tuol Sleng. When the security police came to give them his orders, only my mother and I witnessed the incident. My mother, however, has already passed away. During the Khmer Rouge regime, about a year before 1975, I am certain that my brother, Hang Huon, had been ordained as a monk and then forcibly disrobed by the Khmer Rouge. |
