In the sixth month of the lunar year calendar of 1975, my younger brother, Nuon Ren, was arrested in Po village, Preah Damrei commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province. He was accused of being part of a Lon Nol soldiers’ network. He was arrested at home, his hands were tied up behind his back and he was walked to Prey Treal, Tum Pech commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province. After taking my brother away, they relocated my parents to Kriem village, Sa Kries commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province. Later on, they came to arrest another brother of mine, Nuon Saom. After arresting Saom, they came to arrest his wife and detained her in the detention center at Prey Teal. They next made our village become a base where a secret meeting was held in order to watch the villagers. One cooperative chief was Yim, while one of the chiefs of Preah Damrei commune was Sun Taing, a person who ordered Yin Tun to arrest my brothers. Five days after the first arrest in Po village, Preah Damrei commune, Stung, Kampong Thom, my brother defected home. Yin Tun then came to arrest him a second time. His hands were tied up tightly and he was badly beaten. He shouted, asking me to help him, but I could do nothing. They then walked him past Prasat village, Preah Damrei commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province. When he arrived at a security centre in Prasat village, Preah Damrei commune, Stung district, Kampong Thom province (never reaching the security centre in Prey Chhaeteal village), he was killed by Lim Lan, a security chief in Prasat village. Forced to kneel down in front of a pit with his hands tied up behind his back, he was hit on the back of his neck with a bamboo stick and buried in the pit immediately. I learned of this incident from my sister-in-law, Him Suon, Chuon Saom’s wife, because she found out about it while being detained in Prasat village. Lim Lan then released her and let her come back home. I was in pain when I became aware of the incident. However, there was nothing I could do to stop the pain; there was only suffering for me. |
