Chann Sophal was forced to join Khmer Communist by a village chief in January 1973 as a combatant in unit 8 of the heavy artillery unit. He confessed that he had never gone out to fight in the battle field, but he was arrested by the national armed forces in the very first time he went to the battle field at Chroy Chrey.
ចាន់ សុផល បានចូលធ្វើខ្មែរកុម្មុយនិស្ដតាមការបង្ខំរបស់ប្រធានភូមិ ក្នុងឆ្នាំ១៩៧៣ ខែមករា មាននាទីជាយុទ្ធជនកងទី៨នៃកងកាំភ្លើងធំ។ សាម៉ីខ្លួនសារភាពថាខ្លួនមិនដែលចេញប្រយុទ្ធម្ដងណាឡើយ ទើបតែប្រយុទ្ធ នៅភូមិជ្រោយជ្រៃត្រូវបានកងទ័ពជាតិចាប់ខ្លួនតែម្ដង។
