Chan Ya, a combatant in unit A-1, B-3, C-1, in Prasotr district, defected on November 9, 1974 to national infantry brigade 4 at WT 946-269 because he was afraid that he would be sent to a battlefield. Moreover, he also called his friend Yos Sapann to come with him. His friend brought along one AR-15 gun.
ឈ្មោះ ចាន់ យ៉ា មានមុខងារជាយុទ្ធជនក្នុងកងឯកភាព ក១, ខ៣, គ១ ស្រុកប្រសូត្រ បានរត់មករួបរួមជាមួយនឹងកងពលលេខ៤ ត្រង់ ចំណុចឌុបយូតេ ៩៤៦-២៦៩ កាលពីថ្ងៃទី៩ ខែវិច្ឆិកា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៤ ដោយខ្លាចពួកខ្មែរកុម្មុយនីស្ដបញ្ជូនខ្លួនឱ្យមកវាយនៅសមរភូមិមុខ។ មិនតែប៉ុណ្ណោះជននេះបានបបួលមិត្ដម្នាក់ឈ្មោះ យស់ សាប៉ាន់ ព្រមទាំងអាវុធផ្ទាល់ខ្លួន (ចាន់ យ៉ា) ធុនអាអ៊ែ១៥ មួយដើមទៀតមកសុំចុះចូលផងដែរ។
