The single most influential socio-political fact of life on the Indochina penisula was the cultural heritage of ill-will and distrust among the various ethno-linguistic and nationalist groupings. Khmer and Vietnamese perceptions of each other represented one of the world's great antipathies.
ការពិតនៃសង្គម-នយោបាយដែលមានឥទ្ធិពលមកពីឧបទ្វីបឥណ្ឌូចិនគឺជា កេរដំណែលវប្បធម៌នៃឆន្ទៈអាក្រក់ និង ការយកចិត្ដទុកទៅលើបណ្ដាភាសា សាស្ដ្រ និងក្រុមជាតិសាសន៍ដ៏ទៃទៀត។ ខ្មែរ និង វៀតណាម មានការយល់ដឹងពីគ្នាទៅវិញទៅមក ហើយក៏តំណាងឱ្យភាពអាម៉ាស់ដ៏ខ្លាំង ក្លាមួយទៅកាន់ពិភពលោក។
