For centuries, Vietnam had tried to avoid Chinese domination while seeking to secure its own preeminent position in relationship to neighboring countries. The past decade of conflict in Cambodia had brought this ancient rivalry into sharp focus.
អស់រយៈពេលជាច្រើនសតវត្សរ៍ប្រទេសវៀតណាមបានព្យាយាមគេចឱ្យផុតពីការគាបសង្កត់របស់រដ្ឋាភិបាលចិន ខណៈពេលដែលខិតខំស្វែង រកដើម្បី បាននូវ ជំហរផ្ទាល់ខ្លួនដ៏លេចធ្លោនៅក្នុង ទំនាក់ទំនងជាមួយនឹងបណ្ដាល ប្រទេសជិតខាង។ មួយទសវត្សរ៍កន្លងទៅនៃជម្លោះនៅក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជា បាននាំមកនូវការប្រកួតប្រជែងនាពេលបុរាណកាលក្លាយទៅជាចំណុចដែល គួរឱ្យចាប់អារម្មណ៍យ៉ាងខ្លាំង។
