According to Phnom Penh, many divisions of Vietnamese troops began an invasion in September 1977. Another statement claimed that Cambodian troops were driving out the Vietnamese soldiers. Since the diplomatic break, Vietnam had listed Cambodian on attacking Vietnamese territory since May 1975.
យោងទៅតាមការាយការណ៍ពីភ្នំពេញ ទាហានវៀតណាមនៅតាមតំបន់បែងចែកចាប់ផ្ដើមលុកលុយនៅខែកព្ញាឆ្នាំ១៩៧៧។ សេចក្ដីថ្លែងការមួយទៀតបានលើកឡើងថាក្រុមទាហានកម្ពុជាបានបព្ច្រាស់កងទ័ពវៀតណាមចេញ។ ចាប់តាំងពីទំនាក់ទំនងការទូតមានការបែកបាក់ វៀតណាមបានដាក់កម្ពុជានៅក្នុងបព្ជាីហើយថាកម្ពុជាជាអ្នកវាយប្រហារទៅលើយោធាវៀតណាមតាំងពីខែឧសភា១៩៧៥។
