Stories from refugees tended to vary considerably, depending on how and from where they crossed into Thailand. One 19 year-old student said that, "Except for old people and young children, everyone is working in the fields, and the only time we stop is to eat and sleep."
រឿងរ៉ាវជាច្រើនដែលពាក់ព័ន្ធនឹងជនភៀសខ្លួនពេលដែលពួកគេបានឆ្លងទៅរស់នៅប្រទេសថៃហាក់មានការសំបើមណាស់ ដោយការអាស្រ័យទៅនឹងទិដ្ឋភាពដែលពួកគេរស់នៅ។ សិស្សម្នាក់ដែលមានអាយ១៩ឆ្នាំបាននិយាយថា «លើកលែងតែមនុស្សចាស់ជរានិង កូនកេ្មងតូចៗតែប៉ុណ្ណោះក្រៅពីនេះមនុស្សទាំងអស់ត្រូវតែធ្វើការនៅក្នុងវាលស្រែ ហើយពួកគេអាចសម្រាកបាននៅពេលដែលដល់ម៉ោងហូប និងដេកតែប៉ុណ្ណោះ»។
