In the mind of most Kampucheans, the Society of Democratic Kampuchea was divided into two opposed and opposing groups. The first group was known as the old people or base people. The second group was known as the new people or the market people.
នៅក្នុងចិត្ដ ប្រជាជនកម្ពុជាជាច្រើន សង្គមនៃកម្ពុជាប្រជាធិបតេយ្យបានចែក ប្រជាជនជាពីរក្រុមដែលជាក់លាក់គឺក្រុមទីមួយដែលស្គាល់ថាជាប្រជាជនចាស់ ឬប្រជាជនមូលដ្ឋាន និងក្រុមទី២គឺស្គាល់ថាប្រជាជនថ្មី ឬអ្នកផ្សារ។
