When the reporters arrived at the embassy compound, they found it an armed camp. As the names of evacuees were checked off at the gate, they were warned: "Once you go in, you cannot come out again." Inside the compound, there were 82 Americans, 159 Cambodians and some foreign nationals.
នៅពេលដែលសារព័ទ៌មានដល់បរិមាណស្ថានទូត ពួកគេឃើញសុទ្ធតែជុំរុំអាវុធ។ ខណៈដែលមានឈ្មោះជាជនជម្លៀសដែលចេញពីទ្វា គេត្រូវបានគំរាមថា «កាលបើកអ្នកចូលហើយ អ្នកមិនអាចចេញមកវិញបានម្ដងទៀតទេ»។ បរិវេណខាងក្នុងមានប្រជាជនអាមេរិក ៨២នាក់ ប្រជាជនកម្ពុជា ១៥៩ នាក់ និងខ្លះទៀតជាជនជាតិបរទេស។
