Many defectors had fled to camp in Thailand. During the daylight, the refugees wondered listlessly among the huts or squad in the shade. Some wrote endless letters; others spent a few hours learning English or French, depending on where their greatest hope for resettlement lied.
ជនភៀសខ្លួនមួយចំនួនបានរត់គេចខ្លួនទៅជំរុំនៅឯទឹកដីថៃ។ ក្នុងអំឡុងពេលថ្ងៃត្រង់ ជនភៀសខ្លួនបានរស់នៅជាក្រុមៗ ឬក្នុងខ្ទមតូចៗ។ ជនភៀសខ្លួនខ្លះបានសរសេរលិខិតគ្មានទីបព្ចាប់។ ខ្លះទៀតបានរៀនភាសាអង់គេ្លស និង បារាំង អាស្រ័យទៅនឹងលំនៅថ្មី។
