Since the Communist victory in 1975, an estimated 500,000 to 600,000 people-one-tenth of the total population-had died from political reprisals, diseas, or starvation. Cambodia's new rule had systematically killed former civil servants and soldiers in the Lon Nol army.
ចាប់តាំងពីជ័យជំនះកុម្មុយនិស្ដឆា្នំ ១៩៧៥ មានប្រជាជនប្រមាណ៥០០,០០០ ទៅ៦០០,០០០ នាក់ជាមួយភាគដប់នៃចំនួនប្រជាជនសរុបបានសម្លាប់ដោយការសងសឹកនយោបាយជម្ងឺ ឬស្រែកឃ្លានអត់អាហារ។ ក្បូនច្បាប់ថ្មីរបស់កម្ពុជា គឺសម្លាប់អតីតមន្ដ្រីស៊ីវិល និងយោធា លន់ នល់។
