David Hawk is only half kidding when he says that a "lack of visuals" kept the horrific story of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge from being widely Known in the lack 1970s. One of the first foreigners allowed to enter Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge had been ousted by the Vietnamese in 1979, Hawk points out that even though there were refugees streaming out of Cambodia from the 1975 Khmer Rouge takeover onward, there were no news photographs no videotapes for the 6 o'clock news.
