In 1975, my father, Ham Chhouy, hemorrhaged badly and died because of overwork carrying earth and digging a canal at Sauphy Dam, in Chamkar Leu Commune, Stong District , Kampong Thom Province. I witnessed the incident because I was working with him at the time. After two months coughing up blood, my father died. I am sure that he died because of overwork from carrying earth. After my father’s death, Angkar forced me to replace my father, carrying the earth until I became sick. Nhorn was in charge of Sauphy Dam. |

After 1979, I went to visit my cousin, Chhun Nach. I learned that my uncle, Nach’s father, and his entire family were executed by the Khmer Rouge on the accusation of being capitalists. Nach managed to escape because he worked in a mobile unit far away from home. I do not recall the year in which the incident took place. Nach’s parents died in village number 3, commune (unknown), district (unknown), Kandal Province. |
