Forced labor:
From 1975 onwards, Khun, the commune chief, and Sat sent me to do farming, carry fertilizer, carry earth, build dams, and pull out the grass from morning to night, allowing me to take a rest only during lunch. Additionally, they repeatedly relocated me to work all over the province. One assignment was to dig a canal at Stung (where all the workers were assigned to carry three cubic meters of earth per day). Another assignment was to dig a canal north of Ampil Raling. Sometimes, they ordered me to fish at O Tasek. I do not know how they decided what assignments to give me. They only told me what to do. At one point, five months after I gave birth to my child, they put me back to work as usual. |

Starvation:
During the three-year, eight-month, and twenty-day period of the Khmer Rouge regime, they sometimes forced me to work extremely hard. And when I could not complete the task, Sat and Khun, the chiefs, cut my food ration, giving me nothing to eat. They accused me of malingering. My mother, children, and in-laws were forced to endure hard labor without adequate food until they were so weakened that they died, without receiving proper medical treatment. During the course of two months, I lost three family members who were starved and forced to work extremely hard until they lost their lives. I have been suffering in many ways until today because of the forced labor I endured as well as the loss of so many of my family members. |
