Main Crime Details :
|
I am Phoeuk Phy, currently living in Chhouk Romduol Village, Tipou Commune, Santuk District, Kampong Thom Province. Under the Pol Pot regime, the living conditions in my commune seemed to be better than that of other places because, from my experience, we had almost enough food to eat. We ate rice soup in the morning and rice in the evening. Though it was not enough, it was good for us. We were forcibly put to work.
Forced labor: From 1975 until the liberation by the Vietnamese troops, I was ordered to do farming during the rainy season and harvest the paddy fields. Then the other villagers and I were ordered to clear the forest and grow potatoes and other crops. We worked from six a.m. to ten a.m., before receiving a ration to eat. After a short break, we then worked until five p.m. before having dinner. At that time, Phai, the village chief, ordered everyone to go to work. I do not know why they made all villagers work together. I just did what I was told to do. At one point (I do not recall the year), two and a half months after I had given birth to my child, Phai ordered his militiamen to assign me to transplant rice seedlings. Since I had to transplant the rice seedlings, I had no one to look after my child. Instead, the elderly people in the village looked after my child. |

Other Crime :
|
Property destruction:
After the Khmer Rouge soldiers took over the country in 1975, they took my possessions, including a cart, plow, plates, pots, and cow. They were turned into collective possessions. I am not certain which group did this, but the orders came from the upper level. |
