Execution:

During the harvesting month of 1976, I worked in a mobile unit of Stong District , building a dam at Stung Chynit (Kampong Thma), Baray District, Kampong Thom Province. I witnessed the killing of two people (unknown names) in a forest next to Stung Chynit. The incident took place at about nine a.m . I secretly went to watch four Region 42 combatants escorting two victims to be executed. I saw the combatants beat the victims with a stick. The combatants beat each victim three times with the stick. After the killing, the combatants sliced open two of the victims’ stomachs, removed the livers, and brought the livers back to their base located south of Stung Chynit. The combatants did not see me. I dared not inform anyone, as I was fearful of being executed. I was very scared while I was witnessing the killing. I do not know why the regional combatants captured and executed the victims. I had never known the victims. I was the only one who witnessed the incident – no one else did. The combatants buried their bodies in a pit in the forest.

Approximately three months later, I was sent to serve in a transport unit in Lvea Cooperative, Samproch Commune, Stong District .

Arrests:

In Meak [the 3rd month of lunar calendar] of 1977, while working in Lvea Cooperative, I witnessed the arrest of two families (eight people) who were taken by oxcart to the south. The people who came to arrest the two families were Vorng, the commune chief; and Poul Nom, Ngam, and Siem, cooperative chiefs. The two families had been evacuated from Phnom Penh and accused of being sympathizers of the former regime. The husband was a colonel during the Lon Nol regime. From the moment the two families were taken away, I never saw them again. Two days later, I heard one villager (whose name I forget) say that the two families were taken to be executed at Daun Sok field, located in Py Village, Samproch Commune, Stong District . Approximately two months later, when I was going to tend cattle at Daun Sok field, I saw a pit where the two families had been buried. The killing might have taken place at about seven p.m. When the two families were taken away, I definitely saw Poul, the cooperative chief, and Chan (but later Chan was assigned to drive the cart). Vorng and the Samproch cooperative chiefs Siem, Ngam, and Norm, took their hoes and earth-moving buckets and walked out of the village at seven p.m. I did not know where they were headed. Later, I found out that their group took the two families to be executed.

Many times in late 1976, lots of base people, including me, witnessed the arrest of hundreds of 17 April people. They were taken by oxcarts and executed at Tuol Phlorng. However, those victims were deceived, as they were told to go to a worksite where potatoes were grown (unknown place). I only knew that the prisoners were driven to the north of Lvea District. I am certain that Monh captured and killed all new people at Tuol Phlorng. Monh was a former commune chief before being replaced by Vorng. Later, Monh was taken to Phnom Penh. The killing at Tuol Phlorng occurred continually. I saw central cadres driving Jeeps, coming to arrest Monh. The incident took place at nine or ten a.m. during the dry season of 1977. Monh’s hands were tied behind his back and he was taken by car to Phnom Penh city. I do not know what wrongdoing he had committed. However, I learned from a cadre who took Monh’s position that he betrayed the party.

Detention:

In 1980, while serving as a soldier of the People's Republic of Kampuchea (PRK), I visited Tuol Sleng Prison. At that time, I saw a decomposed body which smelled terribly and was handcuffed and shackled on the second floor of the building. I saw one decomposed body in a bed. Aside from this, I only saw beds, handcuffs, chains, blood stains, and many kinds of torture tools such as an interrogation jar, clamp, and electric whip. I also saw a stack of many photos in another building. These photos showed the head and shoulders of the victims, who were wearing a tag around their neck labeled with their name and a number. I did not look at all the photos, and I knew no one in the photos.
