Execution:
In 1977, villagers, including my elder brother, were captured and taken away by cooperative security police. This incident took place during the nighttime. They were accused of being enemies who betrayed Angkar. However, I do not know who arrested them. The morning after the incident, I learned that villagers, including my brother, had disappeared. In addition, I saw security policemen named Hap, Hoeung, and others capture Sann, who lived in the village. They executed him in an area next to the village. I witnessed this incident. They accused Sann of stealing potatoes. Today, Hap is still alive and lives in Ampil Village, Samproch Commune. I think that Hap and Hoeung arrested my brother. There are many other stories of suffering, but I just want to mention these severe experiences which I faced under the Pol Pot regime, which was a dark regime. |

Forced labor:
In 1976, I received an order from Ie, the cooperative chief (now deceased) to perform some tasks associated with the season. For example, during the rainy season, they ordered me to plow one hectare of rice fields, using four plows, per day. However, if they found out that I could not complete the assigned task, they would send me to be re-educated or executed. At one point, when I was sick and could not go to work, they starved me, saying that I would have nothing to eat because I could not go to work. Because I was famished, I forced myself to work, even though I was sick. One time, I fell down next to the plow. I placed both my hands together seeking mercy from Hoeun, the plowing unit chief, (currently living in Lvea Village, Samproch Commune). I told him I could no longer work and begged for his mercy. After that, they ordered me to tend buffalo and gave me just one spoonful for my food ration. During the dry season, I trampled rice – one hundred rice carts in the field. We had to complete this task within one night. If the work was not finished, we would be tortured. In the trampling unit, Bet and Chheng were tortured, and now only Chheng remains alive and living in Kol Snay Village, Samproch Commune. Chheng used to take grubs and snails which villagers caught to eat and throw them away. However, they accused him of stealing the food and eating them himself. Furthermore, during the dry season, I received an order to work on building Boeng Santoung Dam, starting from O Chek to Russey Kit. At that time, Ngam ordered me to dig the canal. On this project, two people had to complete six meters of the canal, and each person received one ladle of rice for their meal. We had to complete the task; otherwise, they would take us to the communal office. Those taken to the communal office were never seen again. |
