Starvation:
In 1977, my mother went to ask an elderly man named Buon, who was the cooperative chief, for some rice for my grandfather, who was exhausted and sick. Buon told my mother to wait until he finished his meal and then, if he had any food left, he would give it to her. This incident took place in Soa Poa Village, Chamna Krom Commune, Stong District , Kampong Thom Province. My two grandfathers died from malnutrition. Even though I was just a child, the Khmer Rouge ordered me to do the farming. As for everyone, the ration was not enough nutrition for me. The worst suffering was the forced labor with insufficient food at meals. Because they did not give my two grandfathers rice to eat, they both became sick and died. |
