Loss of family member: In late 1977, my younger sister, Yatt Yam, died from starvation and exhaustion at Phnom Tauch Hospital (Phnom Tauch Village, Boeng Taprum). I lived in Phnom Tauch, whereas my sister lived in Boeng Tasrei. During that time, I visited my sister once when she was about fifteen years old. My tasks were to do the farming, carry soil, and uproot trees. Before she was admitted to the hospital, I noticed that my sister had swollen disease. My other sister, Matt Asiyas, (currently living with me) saw Yatt Yam being forced to work until she collapsed. Later on, when I found out that she was hospitalized in Phnom Tauch Hospital, I went to a hospital worker (whose name I did not know) to inquire about her, but the person informed me that she had died. I know that a unit chief in the village (whose name I do not know) forced her to work until she collapsed, became sick, and died. The unit chief caused my sister to lose her life. During the regime, sick people who did not go to work received nothing to eat. No one in the family was with her when she died or during her stay in the hospital. I learned of her death when I attempted to visit her in the hospital. Mode of participation: I want to file the application form to be a complainant, because I am busy doing my household work and I am not educated. I have problems with my health and get sick often. When hearing and learning about terrible stories, I become stressed and I have an irregular heartbeat. I am satisfied with my participation as a complainant. |
