Forced labor: From late 1977 until the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime, I lived in Taing Rorbang Village, Prey Brayut Commune, Phnom Sruoch District, Kampong Speu Province. While living in the village, I was forced to do very many assigned tasks, such as carrying soil, building a dam, plowing the paddy fields, and building the opening gate of the dam. Speaking of building the dam, I worked at O Cha and Prek Kdam Dams. Working hours lasted from seven a.m. to eleven a.m., and after a break to eat rice, from one p.m. to five p.m. The working conditions were terrible, and I became sick due to exhaustion and malnutrition. I almost died, coughing up blood. Fortunately, I went to the hospital and recovered. After building the gate of Peam Poul Dam, I became sick, but it was fortunate for me that I did not die. They assigned many tasks for us to complete. As soon as we finished transplanting the rice seedlings, we grew potatoes. I plowed the paddy fields at Kraing Deiveay in Phnom Sruoch District. Yeu (currently living in Boeng Tasrei Village, Boeng Krapum Commune), suffered hardships along with me during the regime, such as plowing the fields and building dams. The chief of Hao Samnum Commune was an elderly man named Ngan, who was in charge of everything. I do not know who was responsible for forcing people to work without relief. The rice we grew was taken somewhere else; they left no rice for us to eat. Mode of participation: I want to file the application form to be a complainant, because I am sick and have aged, and I am not able to travel far. Moreover, I am not good at speaking and keep busy mostly with my household tasks. I am also busy with my religious practices. |
