Summary / Abstract :
|
As the Olympic Games start in Sydney on Friday, international attention will also focus on Australia's Aboriginal people. Conservative Prime Minist John Howard bristles at criticism from UN human rights monitors, and rejects suggestions of an offical apology for past or present in justices to the Aborigines. But the scrutiny will continue next years, when Australia celebrates the centenary of its national federation in 1991.
