In 1977, the Khmer Rouge cadres arrested my father, Vann Peak, and took him to be executed. He was accused of being a Lon Nol civil servant and was taken to be killed at Banteay Thma Puok, where former soldiers were killed by the Khmer Rouge military cadres.
People who knew about the incident are Peak Thoeuy, male, 54, Plong Hang, male, 56, and Im Poeuy, male, 57, living in Banteay Chmar Commune, Thma Puok District, Battambang Province. The regime committed executions, forced people to build dams, starved people by giving them insufficient food, and made them work day and night, without relief. People who got sick were called people who had consciousness disease. People who did not put effort into working were taken to be killed. To these people they said, “To keep you is no gain and to destroy you is no loss.� They used sticks and Sangke sticks, [a kind of tree.] |
