Summary / Abstract :
|
The Thai foreign ministry handed over a protest note to the Cambodian government regarding the Cambodian soldiers' invasion of Thailand and killing Thai villagers at Ban Noi Parai District in Aranyapr athet District and at Ban Sa-ngae Village in Taphraya District, Prachinburi. But so far Thailand had not heard anything from the Cambodian government. On Aug 16, 1977, the foreign military attaches fr om 12 embassies in Thailand visited the border villages of Ban Sanlo Cha-ngan and Ban Sa-ngae. One Aug 17, a Thai policeman was killed by a landmine planted by the Khmer Rouge while he was on a patrol near Ban Thasen Village of Trat Province. On Aug 19, Deputy Supreme Commander General Kriangsak Chomanan said Cambodia attacked Thailand because the Thai-Cambodian border line was unclear. Cambodia a lso suspected Thailand of supporting its opposition. He said the major problems on the Thai-Cambodian border during the last two years included the refugees, illegal smuggling and border clashes. On A ug 12-15, 13 Khmer soldiers were captured in Prachinburi.
