On Jan 19, 1978, the Thai Prime Minister General Kriangsak Chomanan said that Thailand would definitely not accept Cambodia's plan to extend its special economic maritime zone to 200 miles, which had been announced by Radio Phnom Penh on Jan 15. On Jan 23, 1978, the Thai foreing ministry announced that Cambodia's Foreign Minister Ieng Sary had invited Thailand's Foreign Minister Upadit Pachariyang kun to officially visit Cambodia. Thailand had already accepted the invitation.
