Summary / Abstract :
កំណត់សម្គាល់សេចក្ដីសង្ខេប :
A collection of papers presented at a conference under the same name held at Yale Law school in February 1992, consisting of substantial essays by a range of leading scholars on various aspects of Cam bodian society between during and after the Khmer Rouge period. The genocide (Serge Thion debating the use of the term genocide)is viewed from a demographic perspective (Judith Banister and E.Paige Jo hnston), and in terms of its impact of this period on rural Cambodia (Chantou Boua, Kate Frieson and May Ebihara). The book also contains major articles on the genocide and international law (Gregory Stanton)and on the inclusion of the Khmer Rouge in the peace process (Ben Kiernan), and its appendices contain some unusual input from Cambodian political actors themselves - Khieu Kanharith (Secretar y of State for Information in the post 1993 government)and Douc Rasy (former Dean of the Law School at the University of Phnom Penh and now President of Licadho human rights group in Cambodia), and an outline of the UN Peace Plan by Hedi Annabi, director of Peace Keeping Operations for the UN. Ben Kiernan's introduction firmly places this book in its context as part of the campaign to oppose the r eturn of the KR and to bring its leaders to trial under the Genocide Convention of 1948 (H.J.)
