Summary / Abstract :
|
On March 21-30, 1975, Thai Prime Minister M.R. Kukrit Pramoj issued an order to allow the U.S. to use its bases in Thailand to supply arms for Cambodia. But later the media discovered that the arms su pply was still going on. On April 5, Thai Foreign Minister General Chatichai Choonhavan said that he was trying to hold a talk between Lon Nol and Sihanouk factions. On April 7, Khieu Samphan denounce d Thailand as the U.S.' henchman. Chatichai refused such allegation. However, he said he would continued his attempt, though Sihanoukd had already rejected to have talks with Lon Nol. On April 8, Chat ichai said Thailand had already held talks between Cambodian Prime Minister Long Boret and Sihanouk faction. But Kukrit soon rejected his foreign minister's claim. Sihanouk blasted Chatichai for his l ife, which was the Thai official's confused imagination. Long Boret also rejected the Thai claim. On April 16, Chatichai said Thailand was ready to recognize the new Cambodain government. On April 17, a group of Thai socialist politicians sent a telegram to congratulate Sihanouk and his government. On April 20, Khmer Rouge radio said Cambodia did not trust Thailand's recognition of its government. Sihanouk had been suffered by Thailand for five years. Therefore, its border with Thailand would definitely not be opened.
