This is an English translation of a series of newspaper stories that first appeared in a leading Japanese paper, "Asahi Shimbun." Reporter Honda Katuichi went into Cambodia and interviewed several hun dred family members or village leaders about thenumbers and causes of deaths among their families or villages. He then reconstructed the family trees of these 216 families, which show a mortality rate of 44 percent. (David Hawk).
