On January 23, 1974, at 3 o'clock, about 400 Khmer Communist in battalion equipped with weapons including 2 105mm canons artilleries, moved from Kampot and divided into 2 groups. Group 1 of about 200 troops set up shelters in Phnuon village at VT 785-489. Group 2 of about 200 troops with 2 cannons artilleries set up shelters in Kanlong village at VT 734-657 in an attempt to shell at national military position based in Kampong Tuol and Wat Tik Thla a short time later.
កាលពីថ្ងៃ២៣-មករា-១៩៧៤ ម៉េាង១៥ៈ០០ ខ្មែរកុម្មុយនិស្ដមួយ កងវរៈសេនាតូចប្រហែល៤០០នាក់ ប្រដាប់អាវុធគ្រប់ដៃមាន កាំភ្លើងទំហំ១០៥មម ២ដើម បានធ្វើដំណើរពីកំពតចូលមក រាយគ្នាស្នាក់នៅជា២ក្រុម។ ក្រុមទី១ ចំនួនប្រហែល២០០នាក់ តាំងជម្រកស្នាក់នៅភូមិភ្នួន ត្រង់ចំណុចវ៉េតេ ៧៨៥-៤៨៩។ ក្រុមទី២ ចំនួនប្រហែល២០០នាក់ មានទាំងកាំភ្លើងកាណុង២ដើម មកតាំងជម្រកស្នាក់នៅភូមិកន្លង់ ត្រង់ចំណុចវ៉េតេ ៧៣៤-៦៨៧។ ខ្មាំង ខាងលើនេះមានគោលបំណងប្រុងវាយប្រហារនិងបាញ់ផ្លោងទៅលើ ទីតាំងកងទ័ពជាតិនៅកំពង់ទួលនិងវត្ដទឹកថ្លា ក្នុងពេលឆាប់ៗខាងមុខនេះ។
