The Khmer Communist Mang Saron alias Mot, was appointed to be an acting political commissioner in region 5, during the political commissioner was absent in working time. On January 12, 1974 at 13:00 pm, he defected to the National Army at VV:273-722 in Bakk Prea Check-point and brought along two hand grenades.
