At 2:20pm on May 12, an otherwise routin voyage to Sattahip, Thailand, by the sealand container ship Mayaguez was brought to a halt by a pair of Khmer Rouge neval patrol boats and their heavily-arm crews. Accused of violating Cambodian territorial waters, the ship and its 39 member crew were diverted toward the Cambodian island of Koh Tang.
