Forced labor and starvation : When the Khmer Rouge captured Phnom Penh in 1975, my family and I were evacuated to an unknown village and commune of Battambang Province. During that time, they put [us] to work farming and growing crops, with no relief. One time, I picked some bananas to cook and eat. At that time I lived in Nikum Village, Thma Kol District, Battambang Province. The Khmer Rouge found out what I did and then prohibited our family from taking more food. They advised us that all food was to be shared and individual families could not prepare food for themselves. The incident may have taken place during the rainy season between 1975 and 1976. Previously, the Khmer Rouge had warned me when my wife stole a duck to eat because she was starving. When I went to transport firewood, the Khmer Rouge took my wife for re-education because she stole the duck which she herself had raised. The Khmer Rouge warned my wife, El Ty, that if the duck disappeared again, they would take her and kill her. I do not recall the names of the security police. I knew Sam, the person who was in charge of the village, but I did not know the other people. Mode of participation: As I am now aged, live far away, and been busy, I just want to file the application form as a complainant and put forth the information to the court. Additionally, I have one sick child who needs to be looked after. |
