US jet pilots had accurately reported seeing all or most of the Mayaguez crew on a fishing boat off the island. But it said US commanders relied instead on an in accurate report that the crew was on the island Koh Tang expected resistance from only 20 Cambodian soldier and did not know of accurate US intelligence.
