In April 1972, the Cambodian people's Liberation Armed Forces conducted a series of onslaughts on the Phnom Penh and Saigon troops, forced them to abandon many areas of strategic importance South and Southeast of Phnom Penh, and seriously threatened the enemy stationed in Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provincial capitals.
