Summary / Abstract :
|
It is easy to criticise the United States government over the Mayaguez affair. This is mainly a facile excercise in hindsight. The Americans were not to know that the Cambodians were about to release the crew (throught they might have guessed that they would lose friends in Thailand). The United States, on the information at the time, had to counteract a seizure that was provocative and against the international law of the sea by which all countries benefits.
